HARRISBURG, SD – Findings of a hotel feasibility study on behalf of the Harrisburg Economic Development Corporation indicate the community could sustain an upper midscale hotel.
Core Distribution Group, LLC completed a comprehensive hotel market feasibility study to determine if the Harrisburg community has the potential to support a new hotel. Considering aspects such as market demand, site analysis, community interviews, lodging demand and supply as well as regional industry and economic impact, the study suggests Harrisburg is primed to add a hotel to its growing list of businesses and amenities.
Harrisburg’s Economic Development Director, Lisa Zens, played a major role in coordinating the study’s efforts after coming on staff through a partnership with Sioux Metro Growth Alliance (SMGA).
“Engaging in and completing this study was one of our pillar initiatives when we started the Heart of Harrisburg campaign,” said Zens, “Seeing it come to fruition and spurring some really exciting development conversations has been very rewarding.”
The study provides data to support strategic planning for HEDC and the ability to start prospecting hotels to come to the area. Recommendations such as site location, hotel size, room volume and configuration, plus economic impact information were provided in a 70-plus page report prepared by the Core Distribution Group so Zens and her team can bring the right kind of hotel options to the community.
“This comprehensive and detailed study is another great example of how Harrisburg continues to invest in intentional and strategic growth for the community," noted SMGA’s President and CEO, Jesse Fonkert.
“Harrisburg continues to reach incredible milestones thanks to the help of all our community partners who continue to support and invest in our vision of a thriving and prosperous Harrisburg,” said HEDC Board Chair, Adam Walsh.
The Harrisburg Economic Development Corporation will host an annual meeting welcoming investors and community stakeholders to celebrate a wrap on 2022 successes and share the vision for 2023 and beyond. The event will be held on Thursday, April 27th, at the Meadow Barn in Harrisburg.
